the focus is on strategy, right? carl rove is now channelling the spirit of howard dean. let's actually take a listen, because it's not often carl rove praises howard dean, so we should let everybody hear that. >> i hate to say it, but we need to copy what howard dean did, that means make our ground game in all 50 states. >> the problem is you're going to have to have some kind of proposal in terms of appealing to voters in arizona or in north carolina if you're going to try to change your margins in those states, sam. thus far, i think the recommendations from party elders have been purely strategy. 50-state strategy talking about shrinking the length of the primary calendar, moving the convention up. is that how you set the gop on a course to right itself for 2016? >> probably not. i mean, it's tactical and superficial fixes, obviously. one of the things that worked for howard dean, keep in mind, not that he had two or three staffers in mississippi, because that wasn't going to change the contrast of the races there for the democratic party. it was that he had obama, a candidate who had a

morris and karl rove thinking they were going to win. even mitt romney didn't even have a concession speech written up. they were so convinced they were going to win. by the way, i saw on the news last night sheldon adelson, the guy with the casinos in las vegas he is starting all over again. he said i will spend $100 million against labor because they realize and these guys all talk together the karl roves, the norquists. >> the koch brothers. >> these people all talk to each other and figure out, how are we going to take over? and what the hell went wrong? they were so convinced that they had the money, that they could win this race now they think we have to go after labor because they are the problem. >> that's why we lost ohio that's why we lost michigan. >> i want to make sure president hoffa that our listeners and viewers understand exactly for working families what right to the work legislation means. because, you know, they do this all the time. they give these fancy positive sounding words. >> we call it right to work for less. >> that's what the

there is every reason to believe it will keep losing elections mpl here's what karl rove believes the republican party needs to change. >> i hate to say but we need to copy what howard dean did. make our ground game in all 50 states. >> joining me now, the man behind the former 50 states strategy, howard dean. governor dean, did you ever think there was a time when karl rove would say we need to be more like howard dean? >> i did not. it comes as a large surprise to me as well. look, it is true that the obama ground game is the best i ever saw it. it was unbelievable. and the republicans have a lot of work to do. they're way behind. that ground game is not enough to win. the fact of the matter is you can nod peddle hate of immigrants, gays, lesbians and women by saying god's will is to make women pregnant when you're raped. if that's what you believe, if that's what conservative principles are, you may as well go some place else. we're done. the argument is over. and these guys have to change their philosophy, not just their ground game. >> governor, according to reince priebus, the growth and o

recently, two billionaire-backed groups, one associated with the koch brothers, one with karl rove's network of mysterious givers, these two groups donated over 60% of grover norquist's budget. i mean, isn't that what's really going on with the system, that the lobbyists chiefly presenting a more -- preventing a more equitable tax system is beholden to the plutocrats? >> money plays way too big a part in our political system today. you know, from both sides. you know, there's way too much money coming into it -- that there's no control over it, that what you have -- well, let me tell you -- in my book, bill, i probably have the most extreme position on this than anybody, because what i have proposed in terms of political campaigns, that no money should come from any source other than from individual human beings. i would get rid of political action committee money, political party money, labor union money, corporate money. you know, i would go down to small amounts that are instantly reported, all transparent. i think we have to do that, because it is this money pouring in -- what
